OPINION — Each time I drive around town during my gig job, in addition to my regular job, I keep seeing all these horrible signs scattered around our town. Who in their right mind approved of these signs everywhere?
There are also signs that are full of hate and innuendos and endorsing certain candidates. Recently, these other signs say “Brenda cheats” at bowling with graphics of two different-sized hands. I was a bowler in high school when we had that bowling alley in town. Teams are made of both men and women. We all had different-sized hands and our bowling balls had different weights and you can't cheat playing bowling. To use bowling as another image of hate is mindboggling.
I know that local politics is in the shadow of national politics, but this has gone too far. This is unhinged, especially during LGBTQ month. Please take these signs down that lost the plot. Seriously!
I am not alone here, feeling disgusted and ashamed of these signs. It is the same disgusting feeling I had when we had that horrible truck that had all the flags, driving around our restaurant parking lots and sometimes shouting at people when that truck drives around our grocery parking lots. What did that truck make me do? I avoided the areas where that truck was parked or was roving around.
What do these signs tell me and have made me do? I have taken down the names that these ugly signs endorse and taped their names to my refrigerator as a reminder that these are the candidates who I will not vote for. This madness on top of madness is very bad. There. I said what I needed to say. Thank you.
