What’s Sun City West’s best plan for all residents?

Posted

OPINION — As a Sun City West resident listening to the “master plan” discussions, one thing comes to mind. Has the research study compiled usage versus capacity data? Specifically with regard to the seven golf courses.

I point this out after hearing the point brought up with regard to open space, a park of sorts for the residents of Sun City West. We do not have such an area for our friends and neighbors to enjoy, walking paths through nature and such.

It was brought up to possibly purchase Hillcrest Golf Club, the private golf course that is in a state of questionable repair, and convert it to a park for Sun City West residents.

I would guess that such a purchase would be incredibly expensive. This concept is a huge plus for Sun City West residents, and the following questions come to mind:

Does Sun City West truly need seven golf courses? Are all seven SCW golf courses used to full capacity? Would converting one of the existing golf courses negatively impact the golfers of SCW? What would be the cost-savings of maintaining six golf courses versus seven? Is it more economical to maintain a park setting rather than a golf course?

What is the best plan moving forward for all residents of Sun City West?
