OPINION — I am Jennifer Johnson, a candidate for the SUSD Governing Board. As a native Arizonan, educator, parent and community member, I will bring proven leadership to the SUSD governing board. My focus is on strengthening student achievement, building strong career readiness, and fostering meaningful engagement among parents, community and schools. I care about our students. I believe you do as well.
Through my career as a public-school teacher, principal and district superintendent, I gained the knowledge, skills and experience needed to understand how successful districts excel. The school and district that I led consistently earned “A” letter grades and received national recognition. As a deputy superintendent for the Arizona Department of Education, I guided the implementation of programs that supported districts across Arizona. I served as an assistant vice president at Grand Canyon University, where I provided professional development, resources and student experiences that promoted high levels of student achievement.
High achievement for all students requires strong systems, accountability and districtwide policies alongside a governing board that can collaborate, analyze and set meaningful goals for students and educators. My experience lets me contribute to the board's effectiveness from day one. I've done this work before, and I want to bring that expertise to SUSD.
Beyond my career in education, I've helped build community coalitions that support schools. I intend to work closely with every part of our community to benefit our students.
Our schools reflect our community and work hard to earn their trust. Our students deserve top-quality educators. Our teachers deserve our full support. Our parents deserve transparency and accountability. Our community deserves strong fiscal management and opportunities to invest in our schools, because strong schools mean safe, strong neighborhoods.
Please vote for Jennifer Johnson. Experience matters. Leadership matters. Your vote matters.
