OPINION — Well, dang, I finally agree with Rick Dime regarding his recent letter titled “Fairness should always come first.”
Then, how could he write a previous letter that suggested progressives were purposely bringing in “illegal aliens” as a voting bloc to support them and went so far as to suggest this immigrant group might be forming a militia? What? No facts, just inflammatory innuendo.
Fact: Immigrants have a much lower violent crime rate than native-born. Plus, does anyone really think if there were such a thing as an immigrant militia, they’d stay silent while this cruelty and fear are unleashed on them?
Fact: Immigrants can’t vote for at least three to five years.
Immigrants have even been accused of causing businesses to close without anything offered to back that up.
Fact: All things considered, our nation ends up financially much better off by millions because of immigrants.
Are comments like this really “fair?”
The letter claims “news media’s partisan positions may be factors stimulating rage and violence.” That’s what I worry about, too, but not from the source you suspect.
I worry that letters unsupported by facts, accepted for publication in the local paper, may be stimulating unjustified rage and violence against innocent immigrants, inflaming fear and hatred in readers of the paper. We really don’t need more!
What we’re currently doing to immigrants, including children, is torture and will have lasting effects. Outrageous, in a free democratic republic.
The militia we should worry about is Trump’s, filled with pardoned felons answerable only to him — his gestapo. Their thuggish behavior, ignoring proper procedure (since intimidation is the goal), using masks, beatings, shooting suspects in their cars and disappearing them into horrific concentration camps (no charges, release date, legal recourse, or location information) is unacceptable. Yet ICE has total immunity?
Today it’s immigrants. Who’ll it be tomorrow?
