Speak up: Gilbert readers tackle GPS music, financial report

Five Gilbert music programs earn state honors

I don't have first-hand knowledge of Highland so I can only speak to Campo.

NO SURPRISE! Matt Kozacek and Crystal Payne, and their teams, have built up an amazing musical program at Campo! I spent 13 years there and watched them start with a small group of motivated students, and now ... they're award-winning programs that travel nationally and occasionally internationally representing the best in AZ secondary school music.

If you like good music, take in a performance at Campo Verde HS. ... you'll be very pleased! — Steve W.

Gilbert Public Schools revenue falls $7.5 million as expenses rise in annual financial report

Google search: What is driving lower income in Gilbert Public Schools?

The decline in revenue and student funding — often referred to as the district's income — within Gilbert Public Schools is primarily being driven by severe enrollment declines and shifting state dynamics. Several interconnected demographic and policy factors drive these shifts: High housing costs excluding young families; declining birth rates and aging demographics; school choice and universal ESA vouchers. — Deb. G.

My pet peeve: tax collection distributions being called income. Also, when you downsize the number of students you do not need the resources so you should downsize expenditures. So why pay for something that does not exist? — Lee G.
