OPINION — My wife and I have lived in Paradise Valley for 50 years and now find ourselves surrounded by black and white houses.
What happened? Did Trump’s tariffs restrict all but black and white building materials? Are suppliers of exterior residential construction surfaces offering phenomenal discounts on black roof tile, white limestone veneer, and black sheet metal to complement the ubiquitous white stucco? Has it become taboo to construct a new Paradise Valley house with anything that offers a hint of color?
Walk your own neighborhood. I would be willing to bet that the next McMansion to be built on the scraped lot near you will definitely become a black and white house.
This note is an appeal to all of you architects and developers of Paradise Valley. Let’s have some new houses that don’t look like they should be in Austin, Texas, or Malibu, Calif. Let’s have some houses that look like they belong here.
