Neglected properties devalue Sun City neighborhoods

Posted

OPINION — I want to weigh in on the services of both Sun City Homeowners Association and Condo Owners Association.

I think SCHOA would have a lot more work on their hands if they drove around to see property conditions. I find COA, by their own words that they are only a teaching agency for boards, a bit disconcerting as well.

Not even half of condo boards bother to join and adhere to classes and HOA constitution. Many condos are just scraping by for many reasons — lack of resident interest, cash-strapped boards and folks not caring enough to make the properties better where they reside.

And that overall is what I have to say about both SCHOA and COA. I am personally glad we have them; however, it all comes down to personal responsibility on taking care of your home and property.

I am very glad that we have volunteers who donate time each year to clean up someone’s property. I feel for those homebound who physically can’t do it, it is a lovely gesture of charity and community support.

However, I feel that some folks don’t take care of their houses. I would be afraid to go inside some here.

It is ultimately your responsibility to care for your property. If you don’t want to get out there and water plants and get rid of your weeds, you should hire someone to come in a few times a year and do it for you.

Neglecting properties is only serving to devalue the neighborhood for others who bought and paid and want to have a better environment to come home to than what’s out there.
