OPINION — In response to Mack Beth’s repeated cutesy, faux-Shakespearean letters: Enough! His tirades against a new, improved performing arts theater in Sun City show no cogent reasoning, in my opinion.
Community performing arts spaces are always multiple-use, allowing a variety of music, dance, theatrical works, special films and events to entertain everyone.
Theatre since ancient times has been a vital part of human culture, to communicate knowledge and express emotions. We still gather in many ways to dance together around those primitive fires. Just look at New York’s recent wild communal joy in the final minutes of the Knicks victory in Game 4!
A more modern facility at Mountain View Recreation Center to adequately accommodate backstage storage, costume and make-up areas, and up-to-date lighting, sound projection and audience seating would surely be a showcase to attract more varied use. The entire community would be enriched in numerous ways that make Sun City vitally stimulating.
Recreation Centers of Sun City provides space and funds to support an abundance of activities: sports, games, hobbies, fitness, studio art, clay, dance, music, etc. And, of course, golf!
A better venue for performance by creatives who live here could only enhance all our lives — and make Sun City even more interesting to potential new residents!
