Kudos to RCSC for Duffeeland Dog Park change

Posted

OPINION — I wrote a letter published in the May 20 edition that among other things, addressed the Recreation Centers of Sun City’s maintenance (or lack of it) of Duffeeland Dog Park.

I see Duffeeland as a “perk” included in my yearly dues ($680 for the privilege of living in this fine community and using RCSC facilities), just as much as using any other RCSC facility is.

I also included a suggestion to divide the park between large and small dogs (needed badly). There has been no response to those particular comments, which has a process and are not overnight fixes, I understand, but that is not the purpose of this communication.

Duffeeland is the only facility many of us use. We are required to have a special medallion on our membership card to even enter the park, so it must be a special facility, although void of a building.

Maybe the RCSC is beginning to see that Duffeeland Dog Park does have merit to a group of the residents as much as any RCSC brick and mortar facility has.

I believe, firmly, if a person is going to point out the negatives, they should be just as responsive to give credit for the positives.

Duffeeland is now assigned twice a month raking of the gravel and last week, two employees were in the park, during open hours, collecting the heavy plastic doggy pot sacks from the receptacles to put in the Dumpster.

I understand we now have an assigned dog club individual with a seat at the table with RCSC representatives to present any issues.

All progress is better than none, so thank you, RCSC!
