In support of Surprise council on ICE issue

Posted

OPINION — I’ve read too many editorials over too many weeks that I suspect are from paid protesters and assorted hangers-on ranting against the ICE facility in the Surprise City Council meetings, and I need to set the record straight.

I’d be willing to bet that few of these people actually live in Surprise and are only a tiny minority of the city’s population, but produce 99% of its hysterical hot air.

Here’s what the hysteria obscures: ICE is rounding up criminals! Period! Not just people with darker skin as falsely stated, not those U.S. citizens with Hispanic background.

Anyone who has hopped over the border in violation of our laws and our national sovereignty has broken the law and thus are criminals.

Further, per ICE, the vast majority of those they round up and put in ICE facilities have extensive and violent criminal records, many with multiple arrests — the sort we don’t want in our country at all. They are placed in secure detention facilities preparatory to being sent back to their home countries.

If any of the protesters think these illegals are such wonderful saints, then let them sponsor a few of the MS-13 or Tren de Aragua types into their own homes for a while. Put your money where your mouth is! That’s clearly what the protesters want all of us to do in our neighborhoods.

If the government and citizens make the mistake of rolling over to these noisy, aggressive people, there will be no end to their efforts to take over more and more of the city’s functions by literal “mob rule.”

The city of Surprise will continue to have my complete support in doing what’s right by supporting the ICE detention facility.
