OPINION — Arizona's 1912 Constitution electing only a governor and no lieutenant governor worked fine for over 100 years.
Then political deep thinkers and special interests decided we needed more politicians to solve Arizona's problems, so they got Proposition 131 passed.
Gov. Katie Hobbs selected a political independent, John Giles, as her running mate. She deceived loyal Arizona Democrats. Hobbs created political anarchy and cheated a lot of supporters out of their money.
A good example is the U.S. Constitution. Our original 1787 U.S. Constitution made the presidential candidate runner-up the vice president. That resulted in political chaos. The states in 1804 passed the 12th Amendment requiring presidential candidates to select their vice-presidential running mate. In 1967 the states approved the 25th Amendment clarifying presidential succession.
Prop. 131 created more election problems for Arizonans, when there were no problems.
