Goreé, Baker understand Glendale issues, deserve vote

Posted

OPINION — As the local elections approach, Glendale residents face an important choice. To move our city forward, we need transparency, hard work and leaders who answer to the community, not backroom political circles.

In the Ocotillo District, Leandro Baldenegro’s recent piece claims he wants to be “elected back.” Let’s set the record straight: The voters never elected him. He was quietly appointed to fill a vacancy in 2024 from an application pool. We don't need appointed councilmembers who fall in line, we need an independent, proactive champion like Rory Goreé, who proved his dedication by organizing the petition that saved our Velma Teague Library.

In the Barrel District, we need a representative who understands that a thriving community requires more than just standard political talking points. While Michael Calles relies heavily on his career outside of Glendale's city administration, Lisa Baker has spent the better part of a decade putting in real sweat equity right here at home.

Lisa has actually led Glendale's Citizen Bond and Community Development committees. She doesn't just talk about local issues, she stood directly with residents to protest the sale of Glen Lakes and fight for Murphy Park. Lisa understands that public safety means everything from supporting emergency responders to maintaining safe streets and funding local service agencies so demands on police drop. Her deep economic experience as the former interim Glendale Chamber CEO proves she knows how to help local businesses thrive.

Do not let a small handful of insiders decide Glendale's future. Change is completely within our reach on July 21. Let’s reject the status quo, demand true transparency and vote for Rory Goreé and Lisa Baker.
