Glendale needs a citywide accountability shift

Posted

OPINION — Glendale residents deserve a municipal government that operates with true accountability. What we have instead is a culture of complete silence and disregard for the people who live here.

I recently sent two formal emails to Mayor Weiers, members of the City Council, the city manager, deputy city manager Rick St. John and the city attorney. I outlined critical issues regarding neighborhood preservation, field inspector practices and administrative failure. The response from our entire city leadership? Total silence. Not a single elected official or top administrator acknowledged my outreach.

This lack of response is not just an isolated problem in code enforcement, it reflects a systemic failure across Glendale's entire administration. When constituents take the time to submit documented concerns, offer solutions and ask for basic accountability, they are routinely ignored by officials paid six-figure salaries with taxpayer dollars.

Glendale needs a complete paradigm shift in how the whole city is run. True leadership requires operational transparency, responsiveness and holding department heads directly accountable when public reports are dismissed or ignored.

Closing active files without resolution, ignoring constituent communication and operating behind closed doors damages public trust and degrades our community. Our leaders must stop tuning out the residents they serve and rebuild a culture of responsiveness and accountability across every city department.
