Dr. Johnson will guarantee bright future for Scottsdale Unified

Posted

OPINION — There is one clear, obvious choice this election cycle for SUSD school board: Dr. Jennifer Johnson. Her lifelong devotion to and experience in the Arizona education community more than qualifies her to serve as an SUSD board member.

From 2001 to 2018, I was executive director at the Arizona Educational Foundation. During my tenure, I had the privilege to meet Jennifer when she was superintendent of one of the

largest high school districts in the state. It has always been apparent to me that Jennifer excels at collaboration, leadership and informed decision making based on facts and evidence.

I have seen her in action in myriad roles since and, without exception, she adds immeasurable positive value in every situation.

Several years ago, Jennifer and I drove to Yuma to make a presentation to the Arizona County Superintendents at Western Arizona College. Those hours we spent together in the car gave me some insight into Jennifer’s strong character and values, just what SUSD needs. A focus on what’s best for all students, families, teachers and administrators; a collaborative, informed approach to problem-solving; and building strong communities.

Above all, she is a kind, considerate, thoughtful, and compassionate person who has dedicated her career to Arizona’s public education community.

Her personal and professional qualities and qualifications will serve to strengthen and improve Scottsdale’s schools, just what we need for our children.

I am a proud parent of three SUSD graduates and continue to support our schools. I look forward to welcoming Dr. Johnson to the SUSD board. She will hold all SUSD schools to the highest of standards and work to attract and retain great students, teachers and administrators. To ensure her election and guarantee a bright future for SUSD, join me by voting for just one candidate this fall: Dr. Jennifer Johnson.
