OPINION — Many residents are concerned about the outside money flooding our city council race. A PAC called "Better Together" has spent more than $250,000 on attacks against three candidates who consistently put residents first: Barry Graham, Bob Littlefield and Michelle Ugenti-Rita.
These leaders opposed Axon’s large-scale apartment plans that would harm our neighborhoods, traffic and resources. Yet the group — including a registered Axon lobbyist as chair and former Axon spokesman as treasurer — is funding the effort. Better Together's donations were funneled through a Washington, D.C.-based super PAC, with donor disclosures delayed until after many ballots are cast. This raises serious questions about transparency.
Meanwhile, these resources are also aimed at boosting Councilmember Solange Whitehead, who has supported thousands of new apartments, including Axon’s high-density agenda.
Scottsdale voters deserve a council that answers to residents, not special interests. We cannot allow corporate spending to tilt the scales and silence voices that say “no” to overdevelopment. I urge fellow residents to look past the attacks, reject this interference, and support Graham, Littlefield and Ugenti-Rita.
