OPINION — Here are some online comments about recent Chandler Independent stories involving Flock Safety’s license plate reader contract with the city of Chandler:
“Viewing things that are open visible to everyone is the antithesis of privacy. Just because someone disagrees with the use of these cameras, does not create a constitutional issue ... As far as officers misusing the info, take criminal action if possible but certainly penalize administratively.”
— Christy and Mike D.
“Require law enforcement to get a search warrant to access and search the databases for suspect lead info, vehicle and location. This was the exact argument with GPS tracking that came up years ago and the same fix.”
— Robbie D.
“It’s violating Fourth Amendment rights and no actual American should be OK with this. I’m done with AI. I’m done with everything we’re doing.”
— Micheal K.
Saying things are unconstitutional when courts have said they are, not is not going to fly.”
— Kenny T.
“Resigning so the official findings can’t go on his record. He’ll just get a job with a different agency and continue abusing power.”
— John C.
“Is this because they found other officers that used it inappropriately and now you don’t have that issue to deal with?”
— Stephen S.
“They could have used them to find the missing, but they never did.”
— Deidre B.-P.
“There’s been a ton of missing people found by Flock. Even kidnapped babies and children.”
— Chad B.
“His comment makes me wonder if they’re (Flock) being replaced with a different company.”
— Jonathan M.
“‘Not everyone is going to be happy with ...’ OK, then we’re not going to use ALPRs. Simple. The police aren’t above us. They are us. We grant them the privilege to provide community protection.”
— James B.
“Why are so many against the cameras? I thought they helped with crime in real time.”
— Shelby A.
