OPINION — I think most will agree that it's time for a change.
I come from a family where most, but not all, leaned Republican. I am an independent and believe that our leaders should work to benefit the people they represent over large contributors who try to buy their votes.
I miss true bipartisanship, where both sides would meet and try to resolve issues together, even by compromise when needed.
I am appalled at what has happened to my country. Party over people, name calling and leaders afraid to stand up for what is right, in fear of losing the next primary.
I miss those who were willing to stand up for what they believed no matter how much it upset uncompromising party leaders. I miss John McCain, Rusty Bowers and Liz Cheney. They believed in our values and in democracy.
We, as voters, have the power to turn things. Vote the party that has failed us out of power. Republicans control the presidency, House of Representatives and Senate. What a fine mess they have gotten us into. They had their chance and failed. Now they must go.
Our Arizona Legislature has also been controlled by Republicans. Little has been done that benefits ordinary Arizonans. Our schools are rated near the bottom of the country. Often our underpaid teachers are forced to buy classroom supplies out of pocket.
Action to help hard-working Arizonans have been bypassed in our Legislature to push forward the wishes of the wealthy. Watch out for large data centers in our neighborhoods that will increase electricity usage and costs. Beware of large ICE detention facilities, like that being prepared in Surprise.
This is not the America I know.
It’s time for change. The time is now. Every vote counts. Vote the Republicans out of office.
