OPINION — Like Dorothy in the “Wizard of Oz,” since the inauguration of Trump in 2025, I feel like I’m living in the land of Oz. America feels like a wicked fantasyland, the playground of the Wizard (Trump).
I see lies over truth, misinformation over facts, bullying over compassion, grift over ethical behavior, demeaning others over respect, gut-feel decisions over objectivity, military action over negotiation and compromise. Truly a “Me” rather than a “We” inclination in all aspects of the current administration.
Approaching the 250th birthday of this great nation, I can only hope that soon true patriots will pull back the curtain and reveal the corruption that has consumed Washington, D.C.
Hard-working Americans are struggling to pay rent, put food on the table and often have to resort to working two jobs to make ends meet. All the while the ultra-rich fret over stock market fluctuations, and how they can turn their millions into billions.
I believe the ultra-wealthy 1% are strategizing how to steal the next election with redistricting and limiting the vote of minorities and the elderly by canceling mail-in voting. Currently it is a 50/50 toss-up whether there will be midterm elections in 2026. The will and egos to retain power are exceedingly strong.
Exodus 20:4-5 condemns the worship of idols. When one man becomes the focus of worship by MAGA and of billionaires, it is time to reground ourselves in truth, compassion and democracy.
Our Constitution is consistent with biblical teaching. Our president is not. Where do Americans’ personal foundation of belief lie? Does the Constitution and our democratic republic mean anything, or do we not care to pull back the curtain separating the real United States of America from Trump’s wicked fantasyland?
