OPINION — Fountain Hills' Fourth of July celebration was especially meaningful this year as our community joined Americans across the country in commemorating the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence. It was another wonderful community event that brought together thousands of residents and visitors to celebrate our nation's independence.
I would like to recognize and thank Universal Waste Systems for their generosity in voluntarily providing portable restrooms, dumpster services and dumpster haul-off for this year's event at no cost to the town. The town did not request this donation; Universal Waste Systems reached out and offered these services as a way to support our community.
According to information provided by town staff, the town incurred $6,153.24 in costs for portable restrooms at last year's Fourth of July celebration, which were provided by a third-party vendor. Dumpster services were provided at no charge last year, although from 2022 through 2024, dumpster haul-off generally cost the town approximately $200 to $300.
By voluntarily providing portable restrooms, dumpster services and dumpster haul-off at no cost for this year's celebration, Universal Waste Systems helped reduce the town's event-related expenses while supporting one of Fountain Hills' most cherished annual traditions.
It is important to recognize businesses that voluntarily invest in our community. Contributions such as these help reduce costs to taxpayers while contributing to the success of community events that bring residents and visitors together.
I appreciate Universal Waste Systems' willingness to step forward before their residential service to our community has even begun by contributing to this year's Independence Day celebration. Acts of community partnership and generosity deserve recognition.
Thank you, Universal Waste Systems, for your generosity and for your investment in Fountain Hills.
