A great school district, right here in Fountain Hills

Posted

OPINION — My wife is Italian. Her sauce is a symphony of flavor, starring good tomatoes, garlic, onions, oregano, the right sausage. We're from Ohio, so we call it sauce. If one item is left out, you can taste it.

A community works like that. Great ingredients. Parks and trails. Restaurants worth walking to. Housing options for young families and retirees alike. It's why most of us chose Fountain Hills.

One of the most important ingredients is a great school system, and ours is great. The Arizona Department of Education gave Fountain Hills Unified an "A" for 2025. The high school earned its sixth, third year running. The high school and middle school hold National Model School recognition. Students can finish a full year of Arizona State University coursework before graduation, tuition covered.

If your children go to school somewhere else, this next part is for you.

Ask parents what keeps them up at night and you rarely hear test scores. You hear the other questions. Is my kid safe. Does my kid have someone to sit with. Will anybody notice if my kid is struggling.

Our district answers those well. Twenty-three sports at a high school of about 400, which means your kid has a real shot at making the team. More than 200 students in Key Club, student government and National Honor Society. A marching band that won state at Sun Devil Stadium. An elementary planetarium, the only one like it in the country. Teachers know every student by name.

Superintendent Val Reichler and Board President Rich Rutkowski put it plainly: we'll educate your children, you raise them.

November's override isn't a new tax. It renews funding the district already receives. Vote yes.

And take another look at our schools that are minutes from your house. Everybody deserves a great sauce.
