OPINION — In response to the recent letter thanking Abe Hamadeh for his support of the One Big Beautiful Bill, I’m not thanking him for these 10 things:
1) Low-income seniors got a four-year tax break; the wealthy and corporations get much larger, permanent tax breaks.
2) $1 trillion cut from Medicaid and ACA marketplace premiums, resulting in decreased medical coverage and increased premium costs, and leaving many with no health insurance.
3) Deep Medicaid cuts that threaten the financial stability of hospitals, clinics and nursing homes, risking facility closures and fewer resources, especially in rural areas.
4) New SNAP program rules and cuts likely to result in an estimated 1 million fewer people receiving food assistance in times of higher food prices.
5) OBBB provisions are estimated to increase the national debt by $4 trillion.
6) Abe’s support of Trump’s tariffs and war in Iran have fueled inflation, raised interest rates, spiked energy and food costs, and pushed the national debt to $40 trillion and growing.
7) Abe’s refusal to meet with constituents unless they are supporters, failing his responsibility to respect, respond to and represent all the people in his district.
8) He supports the Tate brothers fighting extradition to the UK where they face charges of rape, human trafficking and sexual assault. Let the UK courts deal with them.
9) Abe has made no public comment on the ICE detention center in Surprise despite vocal protests and opposition from many of his constituents who do not want it near schools and family neighborhoods.
10) Abe called people who disagree with him “communists” for exercising their right to peaceful assembly, free speech and the right to protest. Communists are those who try to silence people exercising their rights.
Rep. Abe Hamadeh is running for reelection in Congressional District 8, which includes parts of Glendale, Peoria, north Phoenix, Sun City, Sun City West and Surprise.
